Broadcast/Training Professional
Agency for Instructional Technology
Joann manages distributive licensing for the Agency for Instructional Technology (AIT) based in Bloomington, IN. She often works out of her home in beautiful downtown East Glacier Park, MT (population 397), but commutes to all parts of the United States spreading the good news about using visual technology to enhance learning. Her primary responsibilities at AIT include marketing to ITV licensees, providing product-related training for teachers and working directly with independent producers and stations who create product for distribution by AIT to educational broadcasters, schools and libraries. Joann holds a BA in Art from the State University of New York, and a MS in Education from the Instructional Systems Technology program of Indiana University.
Prior to working at AIT, Jo produced local programming, managed Learning Link, coordinated educational programming, teacher training, and educational outreach activities for Mountain Lake Public Television. Before that, she organized Arts-In-Education activities for the Clinton County Council on the Arts and was educator and curator of the Kent-Delord House Historic House Museum, all in Plattsburgh, NY. She has taught arts and crafts in after school and camp settings and Art Appreciation (Art 101) for Clinton Community College. She is active in the North Country Community College Alumni Association (president), and in the Alliance for a Media Literate America. She has served on the board of the Clinton County Historical Association, and the Plattsburgh Area League of Women Voters (president) and as charter Chair of the ChalkWaves distributor group, an association of 13 educational media distributors. Currently, she serves as a representative on the advisory committee for the eMedia Screening service of the National Educational Telecommunications Association. The 2006 publication, Distance Learning: Definition and Glossary of Terms (second edition) includes a glossary developed under her guidance. She is an avid backcountry hiker and enjoys puttering around with oil and watercolor paints.
AIT, based in Bloomington, IN, is a non-profit international educational institution. AIT has been a major producer and distributor of video and other visual technologies for more than 4 decades and the agency actively promotes the effective utilization of visual technologies to enhance learners at all levels, but with a particular emphasis on K-12.
