Math Tutorial DVDs Available from AIT in August

AIT will release two Math tutorial DVDs in August. These DVDs have been specially designed and authored by CaptionMax so that they have menus and enhancements that make them useful for both hearing and sight-impaired persons. Hearing and sight-impaired people can borrow the DVDs at no charge from the Described and Captioned Media Program. Teachers find these enhanced media resources useful for improving vocabulary and reading skills and for helping learners to grasp the math concepts presented on screen. The math DVDs are part of the Digital Math collection of media resources, which includes online practice test questions and more than 150 short video tutorials.

50th Anniversary of ATW to be Marked at NCSS National Convention

WXXI, the producer of Assignment: the World, will be hosting a presentation at the National Council for Social Studies convention for teachers who use ATW and those interested in learning about the venerable current events program made for students in the elementary grades. The presentation will take place at NCSS’s National Convention in Houston, November 14–16, 2008. The weekly Assignment: The World begins its 50th season in September, making it the longest running program for students in America. This event allows teachers to learn about how the program has evolved over five decades and to share their ideas about how to use the program in the classroom. ATW is available to any classroom via Internet streaming on the World Wide Web—contact AIT for information about school subscriptions.

NECC Presentation, CCBC Podcast Feature Into the Book

Into the Book continues to draw crowds, and raves! A capacity crowd was in attendance at ISTE’s National Educational Computing Conference in San Antonio last month—about 100 teachers with their own laptops—to participate in a workshop on how to best utilize Into the Book, the award-winning language arts product from Wisconsin Educational Communications Board that is distributed by AIT. The series has won a 2007 Parents' Choice Silver Honor Award, two 2007 Telly Bronze Awards, and a 2007 Aurora Gold Award. It features the teaching techniques of Ms. Marni Pingel, a third-grade reading teacher at Franklin Elementary School in Oshkosh, WI. Ms. Pingel is the featured interviewee in the June podcast by the Cooperative Children’s Book Center at the University of Wisconsin Madison, http://www.wisc.edu/ one of the foremost children’s literature libraries in the country.
