Youth Crises I: Planning the Response for Hostage Taking, Shootings & Suicides. Youth Crises II: Play it Safe—Plan for Crises. This 40-minute program provides materials for introducing district personnel to the features of local plans and/or for providing them with guidelines for reviewing and evaluating these. It Figures. This math series encourages students to apply mathematics skills, ideas, and problem-solving strategies to real-life problems. Fourth-grade students become effective problem solvers by understanding that the process of reaching a correct answer is as important as the answer itself. The It Figures 28 video programs and 64-page teacher’s guide develop mathematical skills, promote an understanding of mathematical ideas, and demonstrate mathematical problem-solving strategies. Instructional dramas and animated segments teach the importance of mathematics in everyday life and challenge students to consider how mathematics relates to them. Music to My Ears. Produced by Nashville Public Television and the Country Music Hall of Fame, this series includes four 30-minute programs for students in grades 6–12. It has several goals. The most important is to encourage the viewer to become an active listener who employs careful observation and critical thinking in the art of listening. Secondary goals include 1) helping audiences make connections between concepts in music and other art forms, such as the visual or performing arts; 2) exposing students to a variety of musical styles and genres; and 3) introducing viewers to musical structure and terminology. Each program explores a musical idea through performances, conversations, and demonstrations. Other art forms are used to create analogies for the musical concepts. Economics at Work. In the complex arena of economics, we often hear references to interest, savings, consumption, profit, overhead, production, and a myriad of other factors. Without a context, they are just theories and fancy words! Economics at Work is a curriculum program that places these theories into real-world, relevant situations.
